Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- How do you decide what thickness to use?
Normally 1/4" (6MM) glass is tempered and used for windows and doors. It is also used to add luster and protect surfaces such as wood or fabric from scratches and spills. 3/8" is used for shelving and inexpensive or smaller table tops. 1/2" is the most popular thickness, commonly used for high end shelving and most table top sizes, it is well priced and very attractive. 3/4" is the thickest recommended glass it is also the heaviest and most expensive. It is for high end table tops often used in higher priced homes and as conference room tables.
- When do I use tempered vs. non-tempered?
Tempered is used when there is any chance it might be sat on or walked in to, such as a door or window. Also, to protect other surfaces and for auto glass. It is 10 times stronger than non-tempered glass and more expensive. It is often referred to as safety glass and breaks into very small pieces when broken instead of large dangerous fragments. Most tempered glass is 1/4" thick. Thicker glass for furniture is not tempered in most cases because when tempered glass breaks, everything on top of the glass will also break. If non-tempered glass is chipped, it will not guillotine and everything on top will be ok.

- What is Curbside Freight?
UPS Ground will usually handle all items up to 75 pounds. Freight Companies (Common Carriers) provide "curbside" service for all items listed on the website that are over 75 pounds or 36 inches in either direction (length or width). You will be notified once the item has shipped, to schedule the receipt of your order. "Curbside" service only provides truck delivery of the item to the curb of your driveway or building. Since these items weigh over 75 pounds you will be responsible to have the necessary help for unloading the item.
- Why does clear glass have a greenish tint?
Due to variable displays and settings on monitors we cannot guarantee and are not responsible for the glass color that displays on your monitor. All of the glass products have a greenish tint that the glass industry refers to as Coke Bottle Green. The color comes from the minerals used in the manufacturing of glass to add strength. The color will be darker on thicker glass and larger glass tops. This color is standard to the industry and used by most glass companies, furniture companies, etc.
