Santa Fe Photographic Workshops Launch Season Six in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

(PRWEB) August 11, 2006 -- Seasoned and novice photographers searching for inspiration and solid hands–on training need look no further. Santa Fe Workshops announces the sixth season in the charming colonial town of San Miguel de Allende beginning October 15 and running through November 18.

“  We take the ordinary and allow ourselves to capture the extraordinary through the use of the available light.
Darcy Schwerin, Marketing Director for the Santa Fe Workshops, said, “15 dynamic workshops will be offered in this charming and historic town of San Miguel.”

“The Workhops continues to be the place to learn the craft of photography, to explore one’s passion for the art, and to network with a creative community of peers…and what a better place to do that than San Miguel de Allende” said Schwerin.

The workshops this season are going to be led by well-known photographers Jay Maisel, Keith Carter, Eddie Soloway, Tony O’Brien, Mona Kuhn, Nevada Wier, Paul Elledge, and many others.

Students will stretch their skills and master new techniques as they immerse themselves in a wide range of topics including “Light, Gesture, Color”, October 15 - 21 with Jay Maisel. The goal of this challenging workshop is to help participants become more keenly aware of seeing—specifically, of seeing precisely what is there in our own images and the important design principle of figure-ground relationships. Daily critiques and assignments hone photographic skills, build intuitive self-trust, and strengthen the ability to think in terms of pure color.

Keith Carter will be coming back for his fifth season with his workshop “Mundo Raro/Rare World,” October 22 - 28. Keith Carter has spent over 25 years photographing in and around the lovely Mexican colonial town of San Miguel de Allende and has found that not a day goes by in this charming pueblito without something to delight the eye, tantalize the senses, or expand the consciousness. San Miguel is the perfect catalyst for creating expressive portraits, landscapes, still lifes, or architectural images.

“The Essence of Place” workshop, taught October 22 - 28, by Eddie Soloway, helps us capture just that place. “As photographers, we often get trapped into thinking we should make a traditional, straightforward record of a place. But when we shift our photographic eye to the perspective of capturing what that place means to us, our personal experience of it, new images appear.” Soloway said.

Participants can take on the challenge of natural light with Tony O’Brien in his workshop “Seeing Light,” October 29 - November 4. This black-and-white workshop is about taking the time to slow down, look at the available light, and think about what it is we want to say through our photographs. “Whether our focus is on portraits, still lifes, or landscapes, we learn to adopt an open mind and a willingness to play and experiment with light. We take the ordinary and allow ourselves to capture the extraordinary through the use of the available light” stated O’Brien.

San Miguel is a National Historic Landmark and has long been a center for the arts and home to an international community of artists and writers. Strolling down the beautiful cobblestone streets at night is a local tradition, making San Miguel the perfect location to create dynamic imagery under the guidance of master photographers.
